Tiyung Dayak – “The Sour Dayak Apple” in Bidayuh Politics

For the Greater Glory of Bidayuh Politics

Who’s (Who is) who on the “Dayaks’ Deck of Cards”…

I’m pretty sure that some of you might recall the infamousDeck of Cards” few years ago, right? Well, in case if you have forgotten, do refresh your memory in here.

So, are we ready to talk about the “Dayaks’ Deck of Cards“, my friends? Let me roll the ball first!

Currently, the total number of Dayaks’ state assemblymen is 29 out of 71 (a little bit more than 1/3 or 41%), where 93% of them are BN assemblymen (PBB – 10 assemblymen (37%); SPDP – 7 assemblymen (26%); PRS – 7 assemblymen (26%); SUPP – 3 assemblymen (11%); yes, excluding Mr. G A Demong and Dr. J R Ngipa).

Based on the unofficial (random) survey, the Dayaks are in constant search for pragmatic, charismatic and visionary leaders. But did they find it yet? Well, it’s quite subjective though. The notion such as “Leaders are made and not born” is sometimes could be another subject for argument. Yes, there are many natural born leaders who inherit leadership guidance from their (grand) parents and have knowledge and skills in many profound fields. Some of them are made after passing through certain levels of vocational training. Yup, I’m talking about well known leaders (only)…

However, the so called Dayaks’ leaders in the form of current state assemblymen (yes, forget about the Tuai-tuai Rumah or Ketua-ketua Kaum) have been perceived as not giving their best to the Dayak community. Some of them might have contributed positively towards the development of their own constituencies, while others – until now – still scratching their heads – looking for the best formula for the same given task. Yes, correct, some of them even busying themselves by indulging in businesses – especially when involving native land development!

Whether they have performed or not, it’s solely depends on us – the registered voters – to decide their fate in the near future. Well, yes, discrimination does occur. Did your respective assemblyman frequently make kampong visit(s) after the 2006 state election? Yes? No!? If “No“, is it because your kampong folks have rebelled against him in the 2006 election? That’s funny! How is he going to win the rakiyats’ minds and souls, then? He ought to use a psychological approach. Aiya… kind of doing an online social survey pulak dah!

That’s fine, my friends! In case if some of you might have forgotten how your respective assemblyman looks like, kindly find his photo as shown below, which was taken in 2006 (sourced from a trusted source, lah!). Anyway, I’m sorry for not being able to produce the current assemblymen’s latest photos, but at least you’ll remember their cutie baby faces:

* This familiar-looking guy IS NOT one of those 29 elected Dayaks’ assemblymen! As you “study” the table format of 3 x 10 = 30, there is one vacant space left, right!? So, the fung sui maah might looks good (on paper) if it is occupied lah! Anyway, let’s wish him good luck and throw him with fresh fruit bunches of moral support for him to contest in the next state election under N.72 constituency lah… Heh!

In short, their fate depends on us – the voters – in the next state election. If we feel that they are worthy to be re-elected (or to be kicked out), we’ll show them our mercy – using our 2B pencils… And yes, it is us again to decide – to be based on deck of cards accordingly: Ace, King, Queen, Jack, Ten, Nine, Eight, Seven, Six, Five, Four, Three and Two! It’s a case of “Who will be on that particular card?

So, let’s carefully make up our minds with

ONE VOICE, UNITED DECISION

in order to get rid of “democrazy” and also for the “better glory” of Dayak Politics!

  2. Errata

For your kind information, Mr. Aidan Wing is a Melanau and not one of the so-called “Dayak Leaders” in the current gomen line up. I’ve mistaken him as one of them as I’ve noticed that his name looks and sounds similar to the Dayak Orang Ulu’s name!
